Since I am a HUGE fan of the Field Roast sausage products, I really looked forward to trying one of their quarter roasts. I had searched in vain for them at several stores and was pleased that I could finally find them at our new Whole Foods in Charlotte.
As I read the simple package directions, I looked forward to serving a meatless roast to my carnivore hubby that I could just slice and then grill, heat, microwave for 30 seconds, or serve cold.
We tried it tonight. I have to be honest. My husband and I were underwhelmed at the Smoked Tomato Quarter Loaf. Decent flavor, but not the texture or consistency we were expecting. I lightly sautéed the slices briefly in a heated skillet (not overcooking them) and both thought that they were tough and chewy.
Perhaps I should try another preparation method or the Wild Mushroom or Lentil Sage varieties. I am totally willing to do that because I enjoy this company’s products and appreciate their efforts to create appetizing meatless products that closely replicate meat.
Note to Field Roast – Love your sausage . . . but this was not the roast I was expecting.
