OK – how many of you keep their berries in the same container you bought them . . . and then are dismayed when they mold or sour a few days later?
Here’s my hot tip for keeping berries fresh. As soon as you get your berries home (whether you have picked or purchase them), take a large container and layer a double or triple thickness of paper towels. Carefully layer in your unwashed berries (giving them some room) and then layer on another layer of two or three paper towels, and add another layer of berries. I suggest never building more than two layers, and then cover the top layer with another double or triple layer of paper towels. Cover and refrigerate. My berries keep beautifully for 7-10 days so that I have plenty of flexibility to make either deserts or my soon to be famous, Nancy’s Precious Preserves. Try this – it is an easy way to extend the life of your precious berries!
