Sweet Earth – My New Favorite Chipotle?

Date: December 10, 2013 / By Nancy Olah

cannellini-chorizo-stew

cannellini-chorizo-stew I simply adore finding new products that improve on my recipes in Fool a Carnivore.

I recently stumbled on a new product at Whole Foods by Sweet Earth Natural Foods, a brand that wasn’t available locally when I wrote Fool a Carnivore.  Sweet Earth makes a dynamite Chipotle Style Seitan that puts the Smart Sausages Chorizo Style that I was using in one of my recipes to shame.   The Sweet Earth Chipotle Style Seitan has a believable flavor and texture that my hubby carnivore told me was just what he craved.  Hey, they don’t call seitan “wheat meat” for nothing!

If you have a copy of Fool a Carnivore and haven’t yet tried Cannellini Chorizo Stew, please use Sweet Earth Chipotle Style Seitan in place of the Smart Sausages Chorizo Style. Make the recipe as described, with one easy change.  In step 4, there is no need to slice and sauté the meat analogue in olive oil before adding it to your slow cooker. Instead, all you need to do is chop or crumble the Sweet Earth Chipotle Style Seitan directly into the stew simmering away your slow cooker. Give it a stir and put the lid back on and cook for another 8-10 minutes at low or simmer to heat it up and blend the flavors. (Remember, seitan is pre-cooked so there is no problem with cooking it for such a short time – or even eating it raw.  Hey, try that with meat!)

Sweet Earth Chipotle Style Seitan provided a dramatic improvement to an old favorite recipe.  I guess I need to rename it Cannellini Chipotle Stew in my next edition of Fool a Carnivore.
