I’ve found some excellent stand-ins for chicken recently, but Gardein’s Lightly Breaded Turk’y Cutlets are exceptional.
We have tried this product twice and they really do have the flavor and texture of turkey – much to my carnivore hubby’s delight!
Here’s the problem. The “homestyle gravy” that comes with the package is lackluster and over salted. We tried it the first time we had the cutlets and couldn’t turn our thumbs’ up. (Which is why I didn’t blog about it!)
This time, I made a base using my own sautéed onions and mushrooms, along with a bit of stock, herbs, and white wine, before I added their packaged “homestyle gravy”, and voila (as they like to say in France), the difference was incredible. My husband licked his plate and wanted more of my gravy on his Yukon Gold garlic mashed potatoes.
Gardein has a great product that definitely has potential. We just need to show them how we make great gravy in the South!
