As you can see by the photo of the remnants of my mom’s birthday cake, I am a much better cook than I am a baker. The decadent homemade dark chocolate cake with dark chocolate ganache and organic raspberries wasn’t the most gorgeous thing my son Nick and I ever created . . . but it sure did taste good. So, in honor of my dear mom’s 88th birthday, I will share an Italian toast that I dearly love. Instead of saying “cheers” and clinking glasses, in our home we say “cent’ anni” to wish everyone at the table one hundred years of life. Cent’ anni, my dear Ida.
